20 IS PLENTY PETITION: INTRODUCE A 20MPH RESIDENTIAL SPEED LIMIT TO SAVE LIVES AND SAVE MONEY

March 4th, 2010

We the undersigned want Westminster Council to introduce a 20mph speed limit on residential roads throughout the local area.

According to an analysis undertaken by Labour Councillors, using Department of Transport figures, we believe that doing this would save us tax payers £50 million a year.

According to those figures each death on the roads costs £1.8m and each injury costs £59,700 in hospital, police and ambulance costs, lost taxation and lost working days and lost production.

More importantly 1,604 people were injured on Westminster’s roads in 2008, including 20 people who lost their lives. That is too high a cost.

We support Labour Councillors who say that that introducing a 20mph speed limit in residential roads in Westminster could cut road accidents by 40% and save 8 lives a year and cut road injuries by 600 a year.

We want to see Westminster Council commit to enacting a 20mph speed limit on residential road as a matter of urgency.

Improving the connection between Lisson Green Estate & Park Road

April 27th, 2009

We the undersigned request the Council take urgent action to insist the responsible authorities upgrade the iron bridge across the Regents Canal, and the adjoining towpath under the railway bridge, near Park Road. This bridge and section of towpath are the main link between Lisson Green Estate and Park Road. They are heavily used by local residents, cyclists and visitors. Lighting, paving and paintwork are badly neglected and have caused personal injury to children and elderly people. This area has been neglected far too long and the Council needs to take responsibility for seeing this important route is made safe.

Rita Skinner,

xxxxxxxx,
The towpath has been a problem for as long as i can remember. there is water dripping onto the towpath making it very wet and muddy. which has lead to some accidents occuring. also, lighting and cctv could be improved.
