Contacting Your Labour Councillors

July 19th, 2010

With the re-election of all of your Labour councillors in May 2010, and Cllr Ahmed Hamid’s defeat of the Conservative incumbent in Church Street ward, the Labour opposition on Westminster City Council is now 12-strong. Representing Queen’s Park, Harrow Road, Westbourne and Church Street wards, your Labour team works hard all year round to serve their communities and fight your corner on the issues that matter to you. Together with KarenĀ  Buck MP, they campaign to make sure that your voice is heard in Parliament, on Westminster City Council and on outside bodies and community groups.

Becoming a councillor

February 25th, 2009

It might be the state of the nation, but then again it might be the state of a local park, community centre, school or service for older people that is making you think that things around your way need to change.

And you might be the person to do it.

There are more than a thousand borough councillors in London. Each representing their local community, all with their own reason for doing so.

You could be the new talent that both London councils and the political parties are so keen to find. You could be the future for London, or at least your local area. Everyone is needed, especially if you are one of the people under-represented on your local council – maybe you are under 45, a woman or come from one of London’s many ethnic communities?

With the next elections to London councils less than two years away in May 2010, now is the time for you to find out what’s involved in being a councillor and if it is the right move for you.

Many of the parties are looking to select their candidates by early 2009, so if you want to be considered as a candidate by the Labour party, then you should get involved with your local party sooner rather than later. You can find contact details on the ‘in your area’ pages on this site.

There is a wealth of information on the work of councillors and how to run as a candidate on the ‘Be a Councillor’ website – http://www.beacouncillor.org.uk/ (new window/tab).
